Custom Build – Washington DC
Modern Open Floor Plan - Hillcrest
Expansive open floor plan design with modern touches. Our approach to designing this home was for the family who loves to entertain – free flowing movement for family and guests. Burnished Acacia 5” hand scraped hardwood floors, statement-making slate stone fireplace floor to ceiling surround and the ever-popular icy waterfall on all of the walls.
About the Project
When we bought this home, it had been vacant for over 10yrs. And, because the copper water pipes had been stolen, we found it full of water and mold from floor to ceiling. There was no foundation to save, so we excavated and poured concrete for a new basement which expanded the initial footprint of the home from 800sqft to over 3,000sqft. Plus, we added a 2-car garage.
The desire was always to build an open floor plan for plenty of space to entertain. No walls between the living, dining and kitchen. The main level also offered a separate sunroom, a full bathroom and bedroom on the main level – sensitive to the living requirements of an au pair or in-laws.
Determined to keep cathedral ceilings in the owner’s suite provided the new buyers a bright and airy environment with natural sunlight as well as a private balcony delivering private serenity in the heart of the city.
